About Matthew

Matthew Duer was born in New York City and severed in the United State Navy. After working on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, Matt became an apprentice to Michael Maffeo who taught him the art and science of constructing and maintaining commercial kitchens and bars.

During the 10 years that he worked with Michael, Matthew developed a passion for his work and became a partner. When his mentor/partner passed away in 1995 he, and his wife Jo, launched Avalon Restaurant Renovations.

In the last 32+ years, Matt has worked with fabricators, sales staff, architects and owners in New York, Washington, DC, Maine, Philadelphia, and New Jersey to produce some of the finest kitchens and bars in the country. Among the many restaurants he has worked at are the Copa Cabana, St. Regis Hotel, Carlyle Hotel, Trump Towers and the Rockefeller Center restaurants.

In 2008, in partnership with All American Kitchen Equipment,  Matt handled the installation of the entire kitchen, concession and bar equipment at the new Yankee Stadium.
